Advantages of the jury system~
The advantages of having a jury in an indictable case is that there is more of a discussion between a variety of people therefore there are more oppions stated and more to be compromised. Such a large variety of individuals input can lead to a fairer and more reasonable verdict. Also having the Jury chosen at random across the community provides a good opportunity for the citizens to participate in their government.
Disadvantages of the jury system~
The disadvantages of having a jury is that it's very expensive and time consuming to have the Jurors make the decision, which then slows down the justice system effecting and costing people a lot time and money. Some have argued that the jury system is inefficient and the Jurors have no legal experience therefore making the final decision to be inadequate and forcing the magistrate/judge to make an unreasonable punishment.
